In order to showcase and support the diversity of surfing, WMNSurfMag has been working on another series of articles, where we will introduce to you whom we see as the 'future females of surfing' and portray what we also stand for:
THE PROGRESSION IN FEMALE SURFING
Make sure to also check out our first establishment of articles, where we showcase Surfer Girls around the world who fight for their right to surf!
The Truth is, Brazilians are the future of Surfing! Since Gabriel Medina won the World Tour as the first Brazilian ever, surfing is booming in South America's largest country. Felipe Toledo, Adriano de Souza and Italo Ferreira followed in Gabby's footsteps and it is only a matter of time until a Brazilian girl claims the WSL's Award of being the world's best Surfer.
Just recently we've come across this young lady who has some serious potential to become Brazil's new female representation of surfing: Maria Eduarda Cesar. She is 11 years old and her favorite surfer is Kelly Slater.
Maria, could you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us where you come from?
My name is Maria Eduarda Cesar. I'm 11 years old and I live in Serra Grande (south of Bahía), [Brazil]
When and how did you start surfing?
I started surfing at the age of 3 with my father's boards by the beach.
Who encouraged you to surf?
Who encouraged me was my father, who has been a surfer for many years. When I was born, he said to my mother: She'll be daddy's surfer girl.
What is your hobby besides surfing?
I like skateboarding, swimming and Inline-skating.
What are your goals for the next years?
Brazilian champion and to be able to participate in the WIZARD Junior World Championship.
Who is your favorite surfer? and why?
My favorite surfer is Kelly Slater because his age is incredible, he is still in the world elite, and also because he is very determined and well committed to surfing and that is why he is my favorite surfer.
